Who 14:10 suits
- Beginners who want a plan they can keep from day one.
- People who feel unwell or irritable on longer fasts.
- Anyone whose main goal is to stop eating late in the evening.
- People who want three meals a day and still a clear daily fast.
Many women, particularly over 40, say they prefer a shorter fast such as 14:10 to longer ones. Research on fasting length for women is limited, so go by how you feel, and ask your doctor if you have a health condition.
Sample 14:10 schedules
- 9:00 am to 7:00 pm: normal breakfast, dinner done by seven.
- 8:00 am to 6:00 pm: early eater, early dinner.
- 10:00 am to 8:00 pm: later breakfast, normal dinner.
Even gentler: 13:11
If 14 hours still feels like a stretch, 13:11 is an hour shorter. Finish dinner at 7:30 pm and have breakfast at 8:30 am. It builds the habit of a fixed overnight fast before you lengthen it.
When to move to 16:8
There is no deadline. If 14 hours feels easy for a couple of weeks and you want more, push your first meal later by half an hour at a time until you reach 16:8. If 14:10 is working, staying on it is a perfectly good choice.
